There are so many questions surrounding shale drilling, and Penn State Extension seeks to educate communities with its “Marcellus & Beyond” lecture series.
Have you been approached to lease your property? Is there an opportunity for your business? What challenges will you face in the future? How will the environment you live in be impacted? What else should you know before signing up? These questions and more will be answered during the lecture series.
The deadline for registering for the first session was June 22, but it isn’t too late to participate in upcoming topics. Pre-registration is required to attend the lectures. Interested individuals may register for individual sessions at $15 each.
The second lecture in the series will be held July 10 and is titled: Environmental Voices of Experience. The lecture will focus on green technologies, waste water issues, and regulatory issues. You must register for this lecture by July 5.
The lecture series will continue every other Tuesday through August 21 and will be held at Rodef Shalom’s Levy Hall, 4905 5th Ave., Pittsburgh, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Each session will focus on the environment, regulation, business and employment opportunities, and infrastructure needs, as well as how the Marcellus Shale industry might affect individuals and communities. Representatives from industry, universities, regulatory and community organizations will provide information and answer questions. The dates and topics of future lectures include:

August 7—Marcellus & Beyond: Workforce Voices of Experience—employment opportunities. Register by August 3.
