Texas-based EV Energy Partners LP is expecting to drill a well in Ohio’s Tuscarawas County this fall as part of concentrated efforts to tap into Utica shale oil.
Work on the exploratory well will likely begin about Oct. 1, said John B. Walker, the company’s executive chairman, in an earnings call with analysts and the media on Monday.
The company did not disclose the location of the planned well except to say in mid-Tuscarawas County.
That effort will include testing new completion techniques that might enable the company to produce significant quantities of Utica oil, said company president and CEO Mark Houser.
The company’s plans will dovetail with similar efforts from Oklahoma-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. that has drilled a well in southern Tuscarawas County for oil. It has plans to add two to four additional wells in Stark and Tuscarawas counties.
